Masterpieces – The History of a Period

A Crucifixion (89 x 116 cm – 1987)

This is a very forceful work, showing the hill of Golgotha, where the creator of all that exists was crucified.

The white body of the Lord stands out against a yellow sky.

Saint John holds up the Holy Virgin. Blood flows in abundance and covers the hill. On the right one sees both the heavenly and the earthly Jerusalem, with its Temple, places of worship and monuments. One sees to the left a Way of the Cross and a crowd attending the sacrifice of the Holy Mass. A monk is kneeling in prayer, while streaks of light in the sky, circles around the sun, a dove and the Holy Spirit foretell the times to come.

Red tints with madder and an orange tree dominate the work. The blood of Christ wipes away the sins of the world.
